Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

I have recently jumped into the Empyrean universe by Yarros and thus far, its been an absolute obsession!

I read Fourth Wing in December 2024 and jumped into Iron Wing a month later. Now, I am craving to get my fingers on Onyx Storm.

Iron Flame
⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book was a big boy but worth the read. It was action packed and had the same quick paced captivating energy of Fourth Wing.

The world building and uncovering the dark secrets of the King and the leaders was really interesting. There was introduction to more lands and the different leaderships in the area (wished I could read the map because I was hella confused). I cannot wait to learn more!

This time, Violet had become a second wing and Xaden a third wing, meaning they had to be separated most of the time. This was frustrating for both them and me because of their unresolved fights.  Did I feel like Violets problems with Xaden's trust a valid issue to have? Not entirely but I'm glad her friends knocked some sense into her. The biggest shock was Xaden not telling her he loved her in book one.

Luckily for us, the chemistry was still there even though Violet tried very hard not to think about it. We did get more spice than Fourth Wing even with the time apart. Xaden continues to be one of the main book boyfriends because he was an absolute sweetie throughout their problems.

Cat, Xaden's ex is the most annoying character in the book. Even if she has a redemption arc like Dain, she'd still be a character I would not be able to stand. Her consistent drive to pin every single problem on Violet drove me crazy. Yes, she was an ex but come on, their lives are hanging by a thread and she wants to be tacky about Xaden moving on. And speaking of Dain, he's still not entirely forgiven for being so over bearing in book one. His tiger mom energy was suffocating.

This book did have its fair share of plot twists and many of them were unexpected. The cliff hanger Yarros ended with was extremely unexpected, to say the least. My head is still processing and I need more from this world because it is an addiction. 4/5 stars.
